Iguana Debuts SlugBug at RoboNexus

SlugBug the Neuromorphic Robot makes its debut at the 2005 RoboNexus Expo in San Jose, CA, October 6-9.

With SlugBug students and hobbiest can explore the basic concepts of neuroscience as they build and adjust the neurons on the brain of this walking robot!

Based on the concepts of Neuromorphic engineering, SlugBug is a robot kit developed at Iguana Robotics, Inc.

The part of the brain responsible for movement in a Tritonia Sea Slug was reverse engineered and used as a model for the SlugBug brain. This is where the SlugBug gets its unusual name.

The brain for this quality robot has four neurons that can be adjusted with a turn of a dial. As they explore, the experimentor can observe how neuron firing rate directly affects behavior. Great for multi-disciplinary study focusing on neuroscience, electronics, mechanical engineering and/or robotics. A teachers guide complete with lesson plans and learning standards will soon be available online.

The first SlugBug was born at Iguana Robotics, Inc. in Champaign, IL. and its offspring will soon be available for sale online at www.alegrobot.com.
